Use visuals in your strategy process

Visual communication is seriously underrated in strategic work 👀

I know it's easy to default to ‘getting the words right, then making the document pretty’.

But that can limit the quality of the conversions you have, and the distance your strategy travels.

The words might make sense - but will they really connect with and inspire everyone along the way?

From working with Predator Free Porirua, I’ve seen how pictures can strengthen the whole strategic process, creating focus, healthy debate, shared understanding and excitement.

Let me be clear: it's NOT about polish! Even simple metaphors and rough sketches can spark better kōrero.

And at the end, a visual one-pager gives you clarity at a glance. Everyone can see where you’re heading, and why.

Most importantly, they can remember it - and explain it to others.

In that way, the picture becomes the strategy.

So if you’re thinking of refreshing yours, ask yourself:
How could pictures and creativity support this process? ✏️

Some ideas to get you started:

1. Re-imagine the future through guided visualisation
2. Explore scenarios with picture prompts
3. Debate tensions; show what different options could look like
4. Sketch ideas to test them early
5. Share it with your community using a bold strategy-on-a-page
